Oh Suzannah

Oh SuzannahWhen Suzannah Coggins found travel brochures in her father's pocket, she dreamed of pioneering in Oregon. But she never expected the violent storms off Cape Horn—or that her widowed father would bring along a new wife—or that the family would lose everything during an Indian war.

In Maine, before her trip to Oregon, Suzannah had befriended Maureen Flannigan, daughter of a poverty-stricken Irish immigrant. Her efforts obtained warm clothing for Maureen and her crippled sister, Patsy, and eventually brought Patsy a gift Suzannah never dreamed possible. On the voyage to Oregon, Phillip, the cabin boy, became a good friend. In Oregon, Suzannah spent her free time with Euwana, a girl from the neighboring Indian village.

Unfortunately, Suzannah's patience didn't include everyone. Why didn't Sister Connor, the pastor's wife, want to help the Flannigans? Even worse, why did Suzannah's widowed father insist on marrying Charity White? How could Suzannah live with a stepmother she neither wanted nor liked? Could she marry and escape her battles with Charity?

Suzannah's story paints a vivid picture of pioneer life, and it details lesser-known Oregon history.
